Plus Size Pink Coat Outfit

A plus size pink coat outfit, which is just an everyday neutral outfit topped with a beautiful coat.

Obviously, pretty much any coat you have works with this look.  But why not take it to the next level with a pop of color?

Just like you might add a bright color shoe (example outfit) or handbag (example outfit) to an ensemble for some interest, you can do the same in the fall and winter with your coats!

In Defense of Colorful Coats

I think plus size women tend to shy away from colorful coats for a few reasons.

First, we think neutral coats are more versatile than colorful ones.  And we tend to view coats as “big ticket items.”

Basically, we don’t want to spend a lot of money on an item that we can only wear in a limited number of ways.

I will say that to a very limited extent, neutral coats are more versatile than pastel or bright colors.  But only in situations in which there is a socially acceptable dress code, such as a funeral.  I have a hot pink coat and have never had an outfit I couldn’t wear with it.

And yes, coats can be expensive, but they are also “investment pieces.”

If you live in climates with cold winters, like I do, you literally wear a coat everyday for at least 4 – 5 months out of the year, every year.

And if you choose a classic design, such as a pea coat or a walker coat, it will never go out of style, no matter the color.

You can enjoy your coat, or in my case, many coats, year after year.

What’s Flattering, Really?  The “Missy Elliott Theorem”

Missy Elliott Supa Dupa Fly - Iconic OutfitAnd lastly, we think neutral color coats are more “flattering,” especially dark colors, like black and navy.

Some of us worry we’ll draw attention to our size, especially with a bright bulky coat.

Let me start off by saying, Missy Elliott, circa 1997, taught us all that just because a garment is black, doesn’t mean it makes us look smaller.  Lol.  No shade to Ms. Elliott, style icon, but you see my very exaggerated point.

Much like the stripes argument I’ve shared, at the end of the day, things like color or patterns aren’t really going to have much impact on the perception of your size.

The best thing you can do for flattering your body is to wear properly-fitting garments while keeping proportions in mind.

Life is short, wear what you like!

And if Missy Elliott can wear inflated trash bags in her debut music video and become one of the most popular female rappers and producers of our time and still be relevant twenty years later, you can rock a bright coat, right?

  My Recommended Button Downs

Ok, now that I’ve gotten off my soapbox, let’s get into some of the outfit details.

As I mentioned in a previous post, if you are in need of a button down shirt, which I think every woman should own, I highly recommend a customizable button down shirt from eShakti

Aside from the fantastic price and amazing quality, if you select the ability to get it customized and custom sized, for less than ten bucks, you will have the best fitting garment you’ve ever had.

I have ordered custom sized clothing from eShakti and was able to take all of the necessary measurements by myself.  You can also choose the overall length and length of sleeve.

  1. Alexa, I just found your blog and I love it! I adore a good OOTD because I personally always scrambling for ideas to wear. I love bright colors and all for adding a pop of color with colorful coats. I especially, love the animal print sweater.
