Academia Aesthetic: Dark & Light

The academia aesthetic refers to a style inspired by the pursuit of knowledge.  Academia aesthetic fashion is inspired vintage Ivy league university style and the classic clothes worn at European institutions during the 19th and 20th centuries.

There are certain movies and shows that come to mind: Dead Poets Society, Mona Lisa Smile, and The Queen’s Gambit.

Think: vintage, preppy, classic.

There is “Dark Academia,” which is quite literally darker in color, heavier in texture, and moodier in vibe.  While “Light Academia” is about more romance, feminine, and delicate pieces.

Outfit Details

This look is “Light Academia” because it features some feminine pieces like this ivory pointelle turtleneck sweater.

The delicate cream color sweater has a ruffled neck, puffed sleeves, and fluted cuffs.  A totally vintage vibe.

The turtleneck sweater looks great with a pleated plaid skirt.

More Outfit Details

Going for the light academia aesthetic, I added more feminine details: pointelle tights, a ribbon hair bow, and pearl earrings.

Then I added a brown satchel bag and some brown loafers.  Very classic, very academic.

And top the look with some vintage-inspired cat eye sunglasses.

Lip Gloss Stick

I recently tried the YSL lippie “Candy Glaze Lip Gloss Stick” in “Showcasing Nude” and must say that I like this formula better than my favorite YSL lippies!  Double gasp!

It seems to be as moisturizing as the Loveshine Lip Oil Sticks but with a better glossy finish.

They don’t last very long on the lips, but the moisture does, for sure.

Anyway, I know they are crazy expensive!  Like, bonkers.  But, they are SO good!

If you’re in the market for a bougie splurge, maybe give them a try?

Perfume

As for the perfume, Maison Margiela’s “By the Fireplace” is a recent find.

As you well know by now, I am usually all about florals. 

But, this warm unisex fragrance has stolen my heart.

A great find for fall and winter, it literally makes you think you are roasting chestnuts at a wood-burning fireplace.

I’m kind of obsessed.

If you’re not ready to try something new at its full price tag, perhaps try the Dossier version.

I tried this perfume brand, Dossier, which boasts “designer inspired” fragrances.  I love them!

Although I don’t own their “Woody Chestnut,” which is inspired by Maison Margiela’s “By the Fireplace,” I feel confident recommending it based on my experience with their other scents.

Now let me try to explain this scent (bear in mind that I am terrible at this, but this site may help).

It smells like a comforting wood stove or fireplace on a cold night.  Only so much better!

I’m not even sure I want to smell like it, but I LOVE smelling it.  Like after I put it on I consistently sniff my wrists.  So good!

I even splurged and bought some of the candles when they were on sale (I know, that price tag is ridiculous).

It smells similar to Maison Francis Kurkdjian’s Baccarat Rouge 540 (in my untrained nose’s opinion) but I like it better.
