Plus Size on a Budget – Fall Work Mini Capsule

A plus size fall work mini capsule for my “plus size on a budget series!”

Plus Size on a Budget – Fall Work Mini Capsule

My “Disclaimer”

I want to prevent some anticipated feedback.  So please keep these things in mind:

  • “Budget” is relative.  Some people easily spend $300 on sunglasses, while other people allocate $300 for their annual clothing budget.
  • You may be able to find these items elsewhere for less.  These are just some “budget-friendly” finds I have come across.  And I typically don’t link to clearance items because they sell out and then people are disappointed.  Also, I have no way of linking to thrift stores, but obviously, if you want to check out your local thrift stores, I think that is a great idea!
  • Recycle & reuse.  As with all of my posts, I hope that you can use the pieces you already have in your wardrobe.  Additionally, I assume that you can reuse all of the pieces below in other combinations with things in your closet to create a variety of looks.  Meaning, I think it is unfair to judge the expense of one outfit as though that is the only way to wear the pieces.

And Another Disclaimer

Let me preface this with what I regularly say when creating a capsule:  I am NOT a minimalist.

If you’re looking for a minimalist capsule, I’m not your girl.

I am an unapologetic clothes horse.

Every closet in my house, plus a spare bedroom, plus half of my dining room, is full of clothes!  (I need an intervention.)

A “Mini Capsule”

This plus size fall work “mini capsule,” is a small collection of pieces you can mix and match for a variety of outfits.

And you can incorporate basics from your current closet to expand the capsule wardrobe.

If you’d like to see more capsules, mini or otherwise, please let me know in the comments below.

Life is Short, Wear Stripes

Stripes will forever be my jam!

I often hear “Should plus size people wear stripes?”

If you’re unsure about stripes, please read this post “Are horizontal stripes REALLY making you look fat?,” written by Melissa at Suger Coat It

She explains, “No, horizontal stripes won’t make you look fat. Only being fat makes you look fat.  And you know what, that’s okay.”

I think Melissa does a fantastic job of breaking down this outdated “rule” regarding plus sizes and stripes.

Outfits 1 & 2 Details

So let’s start by talking about the first two plus size outfits from this mini-capsule.

They both feature this plus size navy and cream striped sweater.

But, here is the best news: if you live in a warm(er) climate, the striped sweater also comes in a short sleeve version.

I layered the striped sweater over a white button down shirt, which is totally optional.

Pro tip: for cooler days you can layer the short sleeved stripe sweater over the white button down shirt.  But, only a long sleeve shirt, not a three-quarter sleeve.  And trust me, it works.

Of course, top with a classic trench coat as needed.

Outfit One includes navy pants and Outfit Two shows the green pants.  Either looks great!

Accessories

Top the look with some oversized tortoise sunglasses.  Chic!

Grab your favorite work tote in a tan or brown.  I love this top handle tote in tan!

And add some chocolate brown faux suede loafers.

Although I didn’t show it, the low heels or flats from Looks 5 & 6 will also work.

Jewelry

The jewelry is modern but low key.

Some on-trend square huggie hoop earrings will look fresh.

Add this coin bracelet, which I own, and and fits my slightly-larger-than-average wrist.

Then add a couple of rings, including this gold dome ring, which you’ve seen many times.

And check out this statement tortoise ring.  Love it!

Jewelry Care

The aforementioned beauties are gold plated, so you might need to “baby” them for longevity.

Avoid the obvious: showers, pools, hot tubs, spraying your wrist with perfume while wearing them.

Store them in air-tight plastic bags, if possible.  This will keep the gold plating from damage and tarnishing.

Beauty

I have talked about this pinky-nude satin lipstick a lot (I know, but it’s so good!).

It is my favorite “drugstore” nude lip and a great option for fair to light-medium skin.

As for the perfume, it’s my longtime “signature scent.”

I have been in love with this fragrance, Vera Wang, since college.

It may smell “dated” but I always get compliments on it.

And the best part is that now it’s inexpensive.

Outfits 3 & 4 Details

These next two outfits are just like the first with a white collared shirt layered over a sweater.

But this time I swapped the navy striped sweater for a bold pink sweater.

And just like the striped sweater, it also comes in a short sleeve version!

And as you can see, this combo looks great with both the navy pants and the olive green pants.  Woot!

Outfits 5 & 6 Details

These last two looks are mainly the same as the first in terms of the pants and accessories.

But, I swapped the sweater and shirt combo for an on-trend “lady jacket” cardigan sweater with gold buttons in a cream color.

I also found a short sleeve version!

Although you can absolutely wear the brown loafers, I prefer these looks with a low heel or flat.

I just think these tan block heels, well they only have a 1.5″ heel, work better.  They also come in wide width!

Which do you like better?
