Plus Size on a Budget – Off-the-Shoulder Sweater Outfit

Before I get into the details of this “plus size on a budget off-the-shoulder sweater outfit,” I want to say that I have been hesitant to create another “on a budget” post because in the past I received a lot of negative feedback.  However, in my recent survey, you guys said you would really like to see more of these types of posts.  So, to prevent some anticipated feedback, please keep these things in mind:

  • “Budget” is relative.  Some people easily spend $300 on sunglasses while for other people $300 is their entire clothing budget for the year.
  • You may be able to find these items elsewhere for less.  These are just some “budget-friendly” finds I have come across.  And I typically don’t link to clearance items because they sell out and then people are disappointed.  Also, I have no way of linking to thrift stores, but obviously if you want to check out your local thrift stores, I think that is a great idea!
  • Recycle & reuse.  As with all of my posts, I hope that you can use pieces you already have in your wardrobe.  Additionally, I assume that you can reuse all of the pieces below in other combinations with things in your closet to create a variety of looks.  Meaning, I think it is unfair to judge the expense of one outfit as though that is the only way to wear the pieces.

I hope this doesn’t make me sound petty.  I just wanted to be upfront because I received so much negativity in the past with these posts that I haven’t done one in about two years.  So now that we have that disclaimer out of the way, let’s get into it!

I picked items that I think look more expensive than they are.  For example, these $8 sunglasses look just like these $300 Chloé sunglasses. And these $18 horn bangles, with some gold bangles tossed in, look similar to these $400 bangles.  And they come in three sizes, so if you have large wrists you should try them.  And if you need a large sized gold bangle, try these.

Off-the-shoulder and over-the-knee are still trending.  So I found this cute plus size sweater that goes up to size 4X for under $25!  Try this plus size strapless bra if you need one.  These wide calf over-the-knee boots are 18″ in circumference and under $50.  If you have wider calves, try these.

  2. Alexa,

You’re simply fantabulous ! Don’t let these negative Nancy’s stop you from doing what you love. At least one person will ALWAYS find something wrong with everything you do, no matter how good/great it is. If you wake up and you want to post your version of “budget friendly” do it! If you decide later to post another persons version of it, great, if not hold your head high & move on. We are routing for you& grateful of yourGod-given talent with fashion!

      1. Yes! I really appreciate these posts! Please keep them up. If people feel these are too expensive then they don’t have to follow you. Personally I don’t think you can get much more budget-friendly unless you’re thrifting, which is fine. Don’t pay attention to the haters, just keep onposting!! ?

  3. How annoying people can get! On-trend fashion tends to spur knock-offs. It can be easy to find if they take the time to do their own research.
If something appeals but is too expensive, then search for a cheaper alternative.
You can’t be all things to all people.

    1. I can not believe the BS about outfits on a budget!! WTH??? Sorry, we all don’t have the $$, time, or health, or whatever the case may be to afford $300 sunglasses! How pretentious!! All kinds of people from all walks of life enjoy Alexa’s clothing ideas & outfits. Not just the people who have $ to burn. And Lisa I have disabilities that affect my mobility & speech & to be so callous & bitchy about we can find our own knockoffs!!! You seem able bodied & in a tax bracket that allows you to spend $300 on 1 clothing item, Why don’t you find your own designer brands. I think more people of little means need help with finding plus size fashion than those of means. And Alexa I flip out whenever I read & check out your clothing options/ideas & the price points. This is your Blog, you are well known in the US & Canada. Why cater to only people in a high or upper-middle-class paygrade?? There’s a Blog in Australia called Styling Curvy. Jen put’s on & styles Plus size clothing from her affiliates & has an outfit to showcase every day. She get’s rude comments from her regular followers. And she will be polite, but when they start to gang up or become abusive in her perspective she blocks them or tells them to Fuck-off. It’s your baby Alexa do what you want.

  4. I love all your looks! You have really influenced and inspired me to try new things! I appreciate that you often give lower price alternatives. Even when your selections are outside of my budget, I can search for similar looks within my budget. Please don’t take all the criticism to heart! I literally check to see what you have posted every single day! You are my fashion BFF!

  5. Look forward to your blog! I appreciate the budget looks. Don’t understand any negativity. Whatever the price point we can always adapt the ‘idea’ to fit our pocketbook. Keep on keeping on!!

I’m here for a week and went outlet shopping and finally invested in a Lane Bryant multi-way bra. I wore it strapless the night I bought it and it’s AMAZING! thank you for the suggestion!
