A plus size striped dress outfit idea for my “plus size on a budget series!”
Plus Size on a Budget – Striped Dress
My “Disclaimer”
I want to prevent some anticipated feedback. So please keep these things in mind:
- “Budget” is relative. Some people easily spend $300 on sunglasses, while other people allocate $300 for their annual clothing budget.
- You may be able to find these items elsewhere for less. These are just some “budget-friendly” finds I have come across. And I typically don’t link to clearance items because they sell out and then people are disappointed. Also, I have no way of linking to thrift stores, but obviously, if you want to check out your local thrift stores, I think that is a great idea!
- Recycle & reuse. As with all of my posts, I hope that you can use the pieces you already have in your wardrobe. Additionally, I assume that you can reuse all of the pieces below in other combinations with things in your closet to create a variety of looks. Meaning, I think it is unfair to judge the expense of one outfit as though that is the only way to wear the pie
Life is Short, Wear Stripes
I often hear “Should plus size people wear stripes?”
If you’re unsure about stripes, please read this post “Are horizontal stripes REALLY making you look fat?,” written by Melissa at Suger Coat It.
She explains, “No, horizontal stripes won’t make you look fat. Only being fat makes you look fat. And you know what, that’s okay.”
I think Melissa does a fantastic job of breaking down this outdated “rule” regarding plus sizes and stripes.
Outfit Details
Start with this adorable navy and white striped dress with ruffle sleeve, which is available in sizes XS – 4X.
So stinkin’ cute and every preppy gal’s dream!
Top the look with some designer-inspired brown tortoise geometric sunglasses.
Speaking of which, have you seen my Splurge vs Save series on LTK? You’re gonna wanna check that out!
Add a straw tote with faux leather details. This tote looks a lot like this much more expensive tote, just sayin!
Next add some designer-inspired slide sandals.
Theses sandals are likely more comfortable than the designer “H-sandals” I referenced, as these bad boys have memory foam insoles. Woot! (I wouldn’t know as the designer versions are bonkers expensive.)
Jewelry
Keep the jewelry simple and modern.
Start with these chic cable hoop earrings.
Finish with a simple bangle bracelet and a trendy sculptural gold ring and a dome ring.
Jewelry Care
The aforementioned beauties are gold plated, so you might need to “baby” them for longevity.
Avoid the obvious: showers, pools, hot tubs, spraying your wrist with perfume while wearing them.
Store them in air-tight plastic bags, if possible. This will keep the gold plating from damage and tarnishing.
Beauty
I have talked about this pinky-nude satin lipstick a lot (I know, but it’s so good!).
It is my favorite “drugstore” nude lip and a great option for fair to light-medium skin.
The perfume I featured is from Dossier, which makes designer-inspired fragrances.
I ordered a bunch of Dossier’s scents. And I love them! In my opinion, they last on the skin as long as the fragrances they are inspired by.
This featured perfume is Dossier’s “Gourmand Orange Blossom,” which is inspired by Lancôme’s “La Vie Est Belle” Eau de Parfum.
This stunning fragrance has notes of Iris, Earthy Patchouli, Warm Vanilla & Spun Sugar. It’s feminine but strong.
As I have mentioned many times, I have tried several of Dossier’s scents and think they are fantastic for a fraction of the price.
