Workwear Inspiration – Monochromatic Looks for Work

I wanted to put together some simple plus size work outfit ideas using only black and white (it does not get more simple than that!).

I love monochromatic outfits because they’re easy to put together and look polished.  You can always add some drama with a pop of bright color, like a bright red shoe or an electric blue statement necklace.

Torrid’s Millennial Pant – Slim Boot Trouser

For office looks I tend to choose wide leg, flare or boot cut trousers over skinny or tapered leg.  To me it just looks more professional.

My favorite work slacks are the Millennial Pant – Slim Boot Trouser from Torrid. I love everything about these pants!  They have the perfect weight for all season wear, the perfect amount of stretch for fit and comfort, and the perfect cut for a professional look.

They come in 3 lengths.  I’m 5′ 4″ and I wear the short with flats and the regular with a heel.  Keep in mind they will shrink a bit.  I dry mine on the lightest heat setting and if I hang or fold them while warm, I don’t need to iron (Yes!).  Otherwise, use only a cool iron (read the tag for more).

Side note:  I tried Torrid’s All-Nighter Pant – Slim Boot Trouser and wasn’t nearly as happy.  They are a heavier fabric, ponte knit, which is nice in winter months, but I have to wear a belt with them as the waist band seems to stretch out over the course of a day.  Additionally, they can be a bit clingy and their leg opening is not as wide as the Millennial Pant.

  1. I just found you! I LOVE how you show what items to wear together, including the shoes, handbag, and jewelry. Oh, and where to buy the items. I’m so glad I found you!

  2. I love everything you have put together as well! Unless I am just not looking in the right places, it would be so cool to be able to order everything at one time and not have to pay shipping from all the different locations.

    1. Hi Paula,
I don’t typically group things by retailer, but I do try to give multiple options when possible. I also try to use a lot of accessories and shoes from Nordstrom as they are free shipping and returns on anything and everything (no minimum). I will try to keep the retailers a little more in mind when putting together looks. Hope that helps! Thank you for reading and giving feedback!

      1. Absolutely that help! Thank you for the information – I had no idea about Nordsrom’s free shipping and returns! Thank you again. Love your posts!
