The perfect denim jacket
I love a denim jacket with practically anything! You can wear them year round, layered in the colder months. They’re classic and trendy all at the same time. However, they aren’t the easiest to fit. And a boxy ill-fitting denim jacket is not cool, in my opinion (but as always, you do you). So my recommendations are:
- Find a jacket with some stretch. These days there are many stretch denim options.
- If you’re pear-shaped or bigger in the hips than the shoulders, opt for a cropped jacket so that you can get the proper fit in the shoulders and not have to worry about fitting the hips.

You are so right about the fit for a denim jacket! A lot harder than I expected! I ordered the City Chic cropped denim jacket from Nordstrom and had to return the first size, too big. But now I question if the size down is also a bit big. So, I’m going to wait until I head home to my parents in June and go try on the next smaller size to see. I love the jacket so I will keep for sure!

I love clothes from UK retailers like Yours, City Chic, and Simply Be, but the one time I placed an order from one, my order was held at customs and I paid an additional $40 in taxes on a $150 order. I don’t feel this was clearly addressed at the time of ordering. Love the outfit and especially the skirt, so I will DEFINITLY be tracking one down!
That’s crazy! Are you in the US? I order from those companies frequently and never once had to pay customs!
I just searched through my emails. It was from Evans and for $55! Yes, I’m in the U.S. and was in Pittsburgh at the time. This WAS back in 2013, so I haven’t tried orders since then.

Great outfit but I could never wear a denim jacket in the summer it would be way too hot…
I’d love to see a feature on jeans jackets! Such a great staple but hard to find the right fit. I’ve seen a lot of great ones in misses sizes but the plus size tends to be boxy. Also IMO princess seaming really helps, and proportionate sized chest pockets (not the usual tiny ones). I’ve been searching for several years…. It’s my white whale lol
