Plus Size Bouclé Jacket Outfits

Two outfit ideas, one for work and one for play, both with this cropped plus size bouclé jacket!  As I have said before:

Typically, when I think of tweed or bouclé jackets, I think of Chanel.  But also, maybe more so, stuffy old biddies in uptight suits having tea and quietly judging everyone.

Now, that is not to say that these jackets ever go out of style.  They really don’t, they’re iconic…  A distressed boyfriend jean, for example, goes a long way to counteracting the “biddy-factor.”  Remember, as I always say, fashion lives in these juxtapositions.

Modern at the Office

As I mentioned, you want to keep things trendy and up-to-date when wearing this style of jacket.  One way to do that is to not wear a coordinating skirt.  Rather than wearing a suit, mix the jacket with a solid skirt or trouser.  It is a bit less “stuffy” styled this way.

And a sleek pair of croco pumps (animal prints are so hot right now) and some trending designer sunnies can also go a long way to modernizing a look.  And, of course, you can never go wrong with a classic Givenchy Antigona bag.  Everyone, from biddy to millennial, can appreciate a luxury handbag, amirite?

Trendy in the Streets

Easily wear this work staple for practically any outing, including lunches, brunches, or drinks!  Simply pair with some jeans and a sexy underpinning, like a swing cami.  I particularly like a swing, trapeze, or babydoll top with this jacket.

Because the jacket is cropped, the fabric of the top will flare out nicely from under the jacket creating that “faux silhouette” I talk about in my “Styling Tips for Plus Size Apple Shapes” post. Worn open or closed, this is a very flattering combination, especially for those concerned about camouflaging a tummy or muffin top.

And lastly, add some drama with your accessories, like a long snake chain necklace and long linear earrings.  And just like the work look above, throw on some designer sunnies, iconic bag, and killer heels.  By the way, I own the sunglasses I linked below.  I think they’re a great alternative to the real thing, especially for ten bucks!

  1. Thank you so much Alexa for all the hard work you put into these designs. You are fantastic and so very helpful for the fashion impaired like myself who couldn’t pick a color to wear to save my life. I am a designer who wears black 99.9% of the time because it is nearly impossible to choose a color. A little like “physician, heal thyself.” So I thank you for your outstanding fashion sense in helping me to put together outfits that take me outside of my black box. Also I wanted to pass on another site you might like called Barefoot Dreams – they are also carry plus size in all the lovely comfy cozy pieces of clothing we all want to curl up on the couch with on Sunday afternoons. My mother of all things turned me on to them because they had a lot of gray items – I guess she was hoping I would move outside black box as well.

    1. Haha! Thank you! And yes, I love Barefoot Dreams. I feature their cardigans and throws around the holidays because they make such great gifts. I have their socks too and they’re amazing!
