Plus Size on a Budget – Work Basics – Part 2

A plus size work outfit for the fall with trendy checked trousers!  In case you missed it, make sure you check out Part 1.  Both are looks from my “on a budget” series.  Before getting into the details, I want to prevent some anticipated feedback.  So please keep these things in mind:

My “Disclaimer”

  • “Budget” is relative.  Some people easily spend $300 on sunglasses, while other people allocate $300 for their annual clothing budget.
  • You may be able to find these items elsewhere for less.  These are just some “budget-friendly” finds I have come across.  And I typically don’t link to clearance items because they sell out and then people are disappointed.  Also, I have no way of linking to thrift stores, but obviously if you want to check out your local thrift stores, I think that is a great idea!
  • Recycle & reuse.  As with all of my posts, I hope that you can use pieces you already have in your wardrobe.  Additionally, I assume that you can reuse all of the pieces below in other combinations with things in your closet to create a variety of looks.  Meaning, I think it is unfair to judge the expense of one outfit as though that is the only way to wear the pieces.

Plus Size on a Budget – Outfit Details

Switching up the pieces from the work outfit in Part 1.  I swapped a black pencil skirt for these checked trousers.  Menswear-inspired textiles are trending.  Consider this coordinating checked blazer.

Much like Look 1, this outfit is pretty basic until some amazing costume jewelry is layered in.  As I said, Target has really stepped up their jewelry game.  I found this trendy yet sophisticated necklace, chic earrings, and fun bangles, all under 20 bucks and all at Tar-jay!

Of course, this look is made complete with some leopard pumps, which come in both medium and wide widths.  I also found some killer leopard flats (wide), if you need a more comfortable shoe.

  1. Hi there! I’ve been following you for a while and love your posts! I’ve gotten so much inspiration from you. I love this outfit, but I’m not a big fan of leopard print (I’m boring lol). What type of shoe would you recommend instead of leopard? Thank you!

    1. Hi Andrea,
Thank you! I’m very glad to hear it! 🙂 As for replacing the leopard pumps. You could do practically any neutral. Black, grey, cognac or rust (pulling out the stripe in the pants). You could even do a nude if you don’t have any of the above.
