Plus Size Jeans, Stripes, and Sequins

This is a sponsored post that contains affiliate links.  All opinions are my own.

If you regularly read this blog, you can probably name the top three things I love when it comes to clothes: jeans, stripes, and sequins (well, anything sparkly, if I’m honest).

I guess y’all have noticed as I recently received a comment saying I need to get over my “obsession with jeans.”

I’m sorry, but it’s not gonna happen!  I love jeans!

And in my sassy opinion, if you don’t like jeans, you just haven’t met the right pair yet!

I firmly believe there are “dream jeans,” like denim soul mates, for each and every one of us.

Find Your Dream Jeans

“Dream jeans” are magical and when you have found them, you’ll just know it.

You put them on and look in the mirror.  Suddenly, you have the ass of an angel and Kanye-like confidence.

And you can move comfortably in them.  You could easily drop it low without fear that they’ll stretch out and lose their shape.

Ever had jeans “bag out” in the rear creating a “pancake butt” situation?  We’ve all been there.  Those are NOT dream jeans.  Throw those away.  Today.  Right now!

The difficulty in finding the perfect pair of jeans is that there are so many variables, not just in the uniqueness of your body, but also the jeans themselves, including, but not limited to, fabric content, stretch, cut, rise, and length.

I have found that even the color and placement of whiskering (the fading that make jeans look “worn”) can make a huge difference in how flattering a pair of jeans are.

Another big issue is the size and placement of the back pockets.  Seriously!  If you don’t believe me, check out this post for visual aids.  It will shock you!

So if you’re still with me at this point, you know that the holy grail pair is out there, we just have to go hunting for them.

Enter Simply Be.  With a new denim collection of over one hundred pairs of jeans in sizes 8 – 28, you are sure to find some magic!

Simply Be’s My Genes My Fit launches today.

Director of Creative, Brand and Production Beth Lowry explains the impetus of their launch:

“Simply Be’s core ethos has always been to provide fashion that fits, no matter what your shape or size. We want our customers to feel comfortable, confident and empowered when they wear our jeans, and by offering a collection as vast as ‘My Genes My Fit’ we are hoping that every woman can feel her very best when she’s rocking a pair of Simply Be jeans.”

As you know, I am a big fan of Simply Be.  So when they asked me to talk about their jeans, I was so excited!

Despite having been a customer for many years and many purchases, I couldn’t remember ever trying their jeans.  I chose several pairs to try, including the pair featured in the outfits in this post, but due to some complications and me traveling, I wasn’t able to get my hands on the jeans before today’s launch.  I’m sorry that I don’t have a full review on the jeans yet.

I was going to hold back this post, but then you would miss out on the discount that starts today!  And I figured that I trust Simply Be’s quality and as I said above, everyone is different when it comes to a flattering style and fit anyway.

But, if you are curious about my opinion on the pairs I chose, I will be updating this post with my thoughts and will let you know on Facebook when I get back home and can try the jeans.

In case you’re interested, I chose the following to try: Kim Bootcut Jeans, Shape & Sculpt Skinny Jeans (vintage blue), and the Bella Slim Leg Jeggings (black).

And in case you have missed my previous posts with my thoughts on Simply Be, I will leave you with a few before getting into the outfits.

I have been very pleased with pretty much everything I have purchased from Simply Be over the years.  I think they have beautiful, stylish, quality, and reasonably-priced clothes, not to mention their size range, which is amazing!  Most of their items come in sizes 8 – 28.

Now let’s talk about the outfits I put together for today’s post!

Plus size jeans, stripes, and sequins.  I’m in heaven!

The first outfit is stripes and plaid, iconic Burberry plaid, to be specific.  As I said in a recent post, a Burberry plaid scarf is an investment piece that will never go out of style.

However, if you’re like me, and can’t afford one, I found some that look very similar.

And this plus size genuine leather biker jacket is gorgeous and a great price!  The grey color softens the edginess of the jacket and paired with the feminine blush pink, it’s just perfection.  I talk a lot about how I believe that fashion exists in these juxtapositions.

And lastly, let’s talk about these amazing wide calf over-the-knee boots!  Swoon!  Simply Be is one of my top choices for wide calf boots.  I’ll talk more about that in my upcoming wide calf boots post.  These boots come in four calf widths and two shoe widths ensuring you can find a pair that are going to fit.

After you measure the circumference of the widest part of your calves (measure both as they are not always the same size), you can check the chart below to see which size you will need.

As you can see, the calf measurement is dependent on the calf width, standard, curvy, super curvy, and extra curvy plus, and the shoe size and width.  So be sure to check the chart!

This second outfit is jeans for a night out.

I know, there she goes again, dressing up jeans.  But, this is how I dress and I love it!

This sequin top is right up my alley, obviously.

Add some statement earrings and sexy heels and you’re ready to take on the night!

Top with the grey biker jacket to add some feminine edginess.

And lastly, I should mention my favorite liquid glitter eyeshadow.  I mentioned it in my Sephora sale post: “Basically they are a liquid eye shadow with very fine glitter mixed in.

But, the amazing-ness is that they stay on for a very long time, don’t crease (if you let them dry before moving your eyes), and there is no fall out.  None!  How does Stila do that?”  Seriously, you’ll love this stuff if you like no nonsense sparkle.

  1. If someone doesn’t like you talking about jeans so much the whole internet is open for them to start their own blog! I would love some info about lightweight jeans for the south – that don’t look like grandma jeans!

    1. Haha, true! 😉 I’m not sure I know of any “lightweight” jeans. I feel like I got some light-ish weight denim from the Avenue, but that was like 10 years ago, so I’m not sure… I’m going to have to think on that one! I want denim for hot weather too!

  2. I’m in love with the cami, but I have questions. The description says it has a tie-back detail. Is the back sequined or no? are there side slits to help with hips? The jeans are awesome too!

    1. Hi Linda,
The back is not sequined, just the front. And the tie is at the top of the back making the length of the straps adjustable. No slits on the sides. See this image: Back View.

  3. Hi Alexa, I enjoy reading your blog very much and enjoy your style advise and a great sense of fashion. After reading this post I actually went on Simply.be site and purchased 3 pairs of Erin bootcut jeggings. This was my first ever purchase from Simply.be. The jeggings had very good reviews on their site. However, when they arrived I was very disappointed. I ordered 3 pairs in the same size but in different colours. The quality of the fabric seemed very cheap. the sizing was inconsistent. The black ones were exactly my size, while the blue ones were too big and long, the grey ones, which surprisingly were better fabric quality were too small and too short. All of them stated the same size and length on the label. Needless to say, I will be returning these two pairs. Being in Canada it would cost me 35 British pounds to ship them back, in addition to 35 pounds i paid to get them. I realize that it was affiliate post and perhaps Simply.be has some better pants than the ones I chose, however, it would be nice if you mention that Simply.be caters to very low budgets and quality is subpar or inconsistent. Thank you.

    1. I’m so sorry to hear this was your experience, Alexandra! I hate inconsistent sizing more than anything and it is SO prevalent in plus sizes. I can’t say that I have had this issue with Simply Be, but obviously things change.

Honestly, I have always felt that their quality was surprising for their very reasonable prices. I wear a denim jacket I recently got from them and absolutely love it. So, I am so sad to hear this. I will have to place an order with them and see what I think before recommending them in the future.

Again, I apologize that this was your experience!

  4. Thank you Alexa, I really appreciate your quick reply. 🙂 At least maybe your other readers will be careful with Simply.be! 🙂
