Plus Size on a Budget – Leopard Skirt Work Outfit

A plus size work outfit for my “plus size on a budget series!”  This plus size leopard skirt outfit will have you looking chic at the office all winter long!

And you might remember a similar outfit idea I had back in September.  This is like the winter version.

My “Disclaimer”

I want to prevent some anticipated feedback.  So please keep these things in mind:

  • “Budget” is relative.  Some people easily spend $300 on sunglasses, while other people allocate $300 for their annual clothing budget.
  • You may be able to find these items elsewhere for less.  These are just some “budget-friendly” finds I have come across.  And I typically don’t link to clearance items because they sell out and then people are disappointed.  Also, I have no way of linking to thrift stores, but obviously, if you want to check out your local thrift stores, I think that is a great idea!
  • Recycle & reuse.  As with all of my posts, I hope that you can use the pieces you already have in your wardrobe.  Additionally, I assume that you can reuse all of the pieces below in other combinations with things in your closet to create a variety of looks.  Meaning, I think it is unfair to judge the expense of one outfit as though that is the only way to wear the pieces.

Challenges

I have to say that I think I usually do a better job.  It was tough to find certain items, especially at great prices, because of the time of year.  I would find an item I loved and then see that it was sold out in nearly every size.

Most retailers are not restocking or bring out new items until the new year.

So, this is not the best “on a budget” post, but I think this is a pretty great look for work at a pretty good price!

Outfit Details

I started with a beautiful leopard skirt, which, by the way, can be easily dressed up for a night out.  And it can also be dressed down for a casual look, like this.

And then I added some basics that most of you probably already have in your closet.  A lightweight black turtleneck sweater

You can wear it over the skirt.  Or for an on-trend look, just tuck in the front.  This is called a “French tuck.”

To add some warmth wear opaque black tights and a belted coat.

For the booties, I opted for a pointed toe to add a bit of polish, but with a low kitten heel for practicality.

I had an extremely difficult time finding similar wide width booties for a comparable price.  But I found these and these.  I think both are great options.

Accessories

As for the accessories, I kept things simple with some classic gold pieces.  Some thick medium gold hoop earrings and a thick chain bracelet.

I added another classic: a black satchel.

And of course, I included my favorite sunglasses.  I know I have mentioned them before because I have them and I love them.  Plus, they look quite similar to some much pricier sunnies by Celine.

Lastly, add a bold red lip.  I know I’ve been showing a lot of red lipstick recently, but I love bold lips in the winter!

  1. OMG! Wish I still worked! Guess the grocery store and Target will get a fashionable sexy shopper. Your work is always fantastic; it’s not easy to dress our crowd. Looking forward to next year, when we rejoin the living and the Y.

  2. Love the skirt! Paired it with a black turtleneck and boots that I already owned. I don’t normally wear dresses or skirts, but you have helped open my eyes to great looks that I can try and still be comfortable. Thanks for the wonderful ideas.
