I frequently get questions about how to accessorize and style outfits.  And these plus size plaid coat outfit ideas are a great way to demonstrate the difference accessories can make, even when it’s subtle.

As you can see these outfits are identical in their “base” of black wash skinny jeans, cream tunic turtleneck sweater, and a plaid coat.

But, I tried to give them different “vibes” with shoes and accessories.

Similarities

Both looks have the same designer Saint Laurent crossbody camera bag.  I’m a bougie B, so I tend to think designer bags go with nearly anything and everything.  I mean, am I wrong?  Lol.

They also have some simple gold hoop earrings, a curb chain bracelet, and a pinky-brown matte lip.

FYI- my favorite matte liquid lipsticks that don’t dry out my dry a$$ lips are these Sephora brand lippies.  They are transfer-proof, making them a great choice for dark and bold colors.

Differences

So I think I was able to achieve two different types of looks with just a few differences: the hats, sunglasses, and booties.  That’s it.  Do you think these looks are different while staying on-trend?

Rancher Hats & Western Booties

So for look one, I opted for the ever-so-trendy wool fedora.  These hats are the “it accessory” right now.  I love these Rancher hats from Lack of Color. 

In fact, this style of hat is a great way to update your wardrobe.  And they are more versatile than you might think.

As you can see, look 2 has a different vibe.  Takes me back to the 90s.  Some platform lug boots.  I had a similar pair circa 1998. 

Add a black beanie.  I don’t know how 90s the faux fur pom is, but I love this hat!

And what’s more 90s than a pair of black classic Wayfarers?

Now grab the grunge mixtape you recorded from the radio and you’re ready to smoke cloves in your friend’s basement!
