Nordstrom Made Brands

You know I love partnering with Nordstrom because they have a great selection of plus sizes!

Plus, they have amazing customer service and free shipping and free returns with no minimums!

As I’ve said many times, Nordstrom has several “in-house” brands that offer quality and style at a variety of price points.

Today’s looks feature a suit from Halogen: the velvet blazer and velvet kick flare trousers.

And even the gorgeous plus size sequin skirt is from Halogen.

Go herehere, and here for recent posts that feature more of Nordy’s “in-house” brands.

Warmest Outfit Details

The outfit idea that will keep you the warmest includes this aforementioned velvet suit from Halogen.

I love the on-trend kick flare trousers

They allow you to show off the stunning footwear, starting with these silver crystal ankle booties from another Norstrom-made brand, BP.

The underpinning is a black top with a bit of sparkle.

Going along with the gorgeous silver booties, the YSL quilted silver clutch is another statement-maker.

I also found some less expensive alternatives.

Jewelry & Makeup

Layer on some cubic zirconia jewels.  As I mentioned previously, the “Nordstrom” brand offers beautiful CZ pieces.

I love the idea of stacking on bangles.  More is more!

And lastly, apply a matte nude lip and glittery eye shadow for the ultimate party look.

Warmer Outfit Details

Just like the warmest outfit idea, this look also features the same velvet suit from Halogen: the velvet blazer and velvet kick flare trousers.

And even the same jewelry and bag.

But, instead of a long sleeve sparkle top, I opted for a black cap sleeve satin top.

And instead of glittery silver ankle booties, I chose some sparkly pumps.

For the nude lip, I chose a classic matte lipstick, MAC’s “Honey Love,” which will look great on fair to light skin tones.

If you’re looking for a similar shade for deeper skin tones, check out “Velvet Teddy.”

Both are beige-y nudes with a bit of rose.

I love these tones with a dramatic glamorous eye.

If you’d like some help with the eyeshadow, check out my attempt at a tutorial.

Warm Outfit Details

The warm outfit features the same velvet kick flare trousers.  But I lost the coordinating double breasted blazer as it might be too hot for some climates.

Instead, I chose a puff three-quarter sleeve sparkly top.

As for shoes, I went with another stunning option, these silver glittery heeled sandals.

Southern Edition Outfit Details

The “Southern Edition,” which is how it all started way back in 2017, is a look for those in the warmest climates.

I thought the velvet trousers might be too warm, so I swapped them for a stunning sequin skirt from Halogen.

If sequins aren’t your thing, a basic black pencil skirt or ruched skirt works too!

I topped with the cap sleeve satin blouse.  And finished with glittery silver sandals.

  1. Nordstrom has removed plus departments from its stores. This is an obvious corporate strategy. I no longer purchase from Nordstrom for that reason but I notice you feature quite a lot of outfits from the store. What is your feeling about that?

    1. Hi AJ,
So my local Nordstrom still has plus sizes. And I just verified that the suit I featured above is in fact available at my local store. Plus, the website says 10+ nearby stores have it in stock.
So my first question is, do you know if this is an issue with your local Nordstrom or nationwide? You said it’s a corporate strategy, do you have any further info? I searched Google and the only article from the past year I could come up with was one in Vogue specifically stating that Nordstrom would be carrying the 11 Honoré plus size brand in their brick and mortar stores. (It is from Oct 2021).
So I am just not sure what to think in regards to what is happening in-store as I haven’t heard of this from anyone in the plus size blogging community either.

That said, if that is their plan, it would stink. Obviously, it’s a bad thing anytime there are fewer opportunities for plus size women to shop!

However, as a blogger, I work within the unfortunate limitations of what is available to plus size women. And oftentimes that is online-only shopping. I feel my job is to provide options any and everywhere I can. I also listen to my readers and to date they really seem to like shopping at Nordstrom (just as I do). Nordstrom offers free shipping and free returns. So, if we will be limited in the future, as we are already at many places, at least there will be the option to try on for free. Plus, I maintain that Nordstrom offers some of the best customer service I’ve seen anywhere, but especially at a department store!

I understand wanting to spend your dollars at a retailer that aligns with your values as well as your need for convenience. I do the same. And as a blogger, I recommend my readers learn about where they’re buying from and do the same. For example, I presented some problematic issues with Abercrombie so my readers had the facts [as I know them] and can decide what they want to do.
Sometimes things are worth fighting and other times they’re not. It is certainly a personal choice. And sadly as plus size women, our choices are already far too limited.

If my readers don’t want to support a brand or retailer en masse, of course, I take that into consideration. But, I really haven’t had that issue with any retailer/brand.

From a personal standpoint, I can’t see myself not shopping at Nordstrom. I shop nearly exclusively online these days and much prefer it. And with COVID, I don’t see that changing anytime soon for me, personally. So again, I really think it’s a personal choice.

If you have sources or further information, please let me know. I like to offer my readers information when possible.

      Thanks!

      1. Thanks so much for all of this information. A store manager in my local store told me it was a corporate decision but after I saw your response, and failed to hear back from “corporate,” I reached out directly to my local store GM. She was quick to respond that she’d heard from many people and the store was looking to bring back its plus department. We are going to connect by phone. Thanks so much for the info you were able to share! I think Nordstrom’s plus clothing has gotten dowdy but hoping for improvements to plus merchandise and availability in 2022.
