Plus Size Summer Athleisure Outfit

A plus size summer athleisure outfit for lounging or running errands.

In case you haven’t noticed, the athleisure “trend” is here to stay.  So get out that loungewear and rock it like a bad B!

How to Wear Sweats Like a Boss

Here are some tips for wearing the look:

1 – Choose a matching set.  A tracksuit or a basic sweatsuit, with coordinating pieces are in.

And that actually makes getting dressed so much easier!

But, if you opt to mix and match pieces, be sure to check this post for more tips.

2 – Add trendy accessories.  Although you’re dressed like you’re headed to the gym, you’re not actually.

So don’t be afraid to accessorize like you would any other casual outfit.

Wear trendy jewelry, hats, sunglasses, and a crossbody bag.

3 – Choose “elevated sneakers.”  You might remember from my post on the athleisure “formula” that sneakers should be intentional.

Choose classic or retro sneakers, such as Saucony Jazz (I love the Low Pro version), adidas Gazelles or CampusOnitsuka Tiger in any variety, or anything similar.

Many of these classic sneakers are unisex and come sized as men’s, which means they run wide.

If retro classics aren’t your thing, look for trendy trainers, such as Nike’s Air Max or adidas’ Ultraboost.

If you are really lost to pick out some kick ass sneakers, check the sneaker section of asos.  I feel like they are always on top of what is hot at the moment.

Bottom line, your kicks need to be clean, in good condition, and “elevated.”

If you wear your everyday gym sneakers or the dirty old tennis shoes that you wear to walk the dog, you’re going to look like a hot mess.

Not that there is anything wrong with hot mess, but we’re trying to look trendy and smart in this situation.

By the way, if you do find yourself some kick ass, trendy, and “elevated” sneakers, you will realize you can wear them with practically anything and look awesome!

And that is a total win for comfort!  Take a look at this outfit idea to see what I mean.

Also, you’re going to want to go sockless or wear no show socks.

Outfit Details

Following my tips, I opted for a sweatshirt and coordinating drawstring shorts.

The great thing about this set is there are more coordinating pieces, like a t-shirt, hoodie, joggers, and even wide-leg sweats.

And because I think it’s important to wear matching sets to achieve this look, I wanted to show the matching pieces I found that are more affordable as well.

Accessories

I then added some more neutrals, including a khaki baseball cap.  If you want the look without a team, they make this cap without a logo.

For “elevated” sneakers, I opted for the Adidas Ultraboost.  I also think the classic Adidas Gazelles in “Savannah” would make a great choice as well.

Of course, I had to include a designer crossbody bag, the Louis Vuitton Pochette Métis.  I found some great affordable alternatives which are linked below.

For sunglasses, the classic aviators by Ray-Ban are perfect!

Jewelry

As for jewelry, I kept things simple and on-trend.

A gold watch with pave bezel, a paperclip chain necklace, an initial pendant necklace, and thick gold hoop earrings.

I wanted to mention that I recently purchased a lot of jewelry from the earrings’ brand, PAVOIfrom Amazon, and must say the quality is really great for the prices!

  1. Alexa,
I wanted you to know, I went from not wanting to buy clothes at my size to enjoying shopping and life more with your coordinated looks. I deserve to look nice, and you help me pull it all together. It has changed so much more than my style. Thank you, my dear, your work matters more than you know.
